About The Position

Assists in sorting specimens, primer tubes and maintains equipment in good operating condition. The role involves organizing and sorting samples and primer tubes according to standard operating procedures, consolidating and disposing of expired primer tubes, and organizing and cleaning cold storage units and the laboratory. It also includes the storage of samples, data entry into the LIMS system, and supporting the Histology Technician in daily tasks. The Lab Assistant will also assist the laboratory team with maintenance and cleaning of equipment, and in completing laboratory maintenance. Adherence to good laboratory practice (GLP) is expected, including maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The position requires completing training and other deadlines on time, recognizing and escalating equipment malfunctions, and recognizing, documenting, and escalating protocol deviations. Effective communication with the team and other departments, providing feedback on the daily schedule and tasks, and assisting teammates are also key responsibilities. The role demands professional conduct and adherence to departmental expectations, as well as maintaining current status on Natera training requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or educational equivalent
  • 0-1 years of industry-related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and computer skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Organized, detail oriented, hardworking and be able to take positive direction
  • Work independently and with a team
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to work with microsoft excel

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of PPE and Safety regulations.
  • Have knowledge of some medical terminology and histopathology practices.
  • Capable of reading, accessioning, and translating requisitions

Responsibilities

  • Assists in organizing and sorting samples and primer tubes according to the standard operating procedure in an efficient manner with little to no errors
  • Responsible for consolidation and disposal of expired primer tubes.
  • Responsible for organizing, cleaning cold storage units and laboratory as needed.
  • Responsible for storage of samples and data entry into LIMS system.
  • Support the Histology Techician in completing daily tasks.
  • Assist laboratory team with maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
  • Assist in completing laboratory maintenance.
  • Follows GLP (good laboratory practice): maintain cleans and organized work space.
  • Completes training and other deadlines on time.
  • Recognizes and escalates equipment malfunctions.
  • Recognizes, documents, and escalates protocol deviations in lab to lead/supervisor.
  • Communicates effectively with team and other departments (including via e-mail).
  • Provides feedback on day-to-day schedule and tasks to lead/supervisor.

  • Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner.
  • Adheres to departmental expectations.
  • Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements.
