About The Position

The Analyst provides analytical services to various customer groups within Sudbury operations, by performing chemical and instrumental analysis on a wide assortment of samples using a variety of analytical methods and chemical instrumentation. Additionally, in this position you will: Perform routine analytical work following established procedures on a wide variety of samples using classical and modern instrumental methods of analysis (e.g. AAS, GFAAS, XRF, LECO, MALVERN/PSD, wet lab techniques including titrations and digestions, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, GC, GC-MS, etc.). Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment. Maintenance involves calibrating, cleaning parts and troubleshooting problems, to ensure that instrumentation remains in full working order. Apply knowledge of statistics in setting up and interpreting (quality) control charts. Meet quality assurance controls, in compliance with ISO 17025 standards. Read and understand instructions, procedures, manuals, administrative guidelines. Provide basic information and answer routine queries from customers. Actively participate in activities related to the execution of the departmental Safety plan.

Requirements

  • Three-year Chemical Engineering Technology diploma and/or University degree in Chemistry, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two to five years of progressive experience in an inorganic analytical laboratory environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of modern analytical techniques and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of analytical instrumentation specific to laboratory applications.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • College / University level numerical / mathematical skills and basic knowledge of statistics and control charts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as broad knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF.
  • Lab experience in an ISO certified and/or accredited inorganic analytical laboratory.
