About The Position

SGS, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification, is seeking a Lab Analyst for their Metals team at the East Syracuse, NY laboratory. The role involves preparing and analyzing samples with accuracy and precision according to SGS' analytical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Lab Analyst will work independently and as part of a team to achieve daily production targets, ensuring adherence to hold times and turnaround times. A fundamental understanding of basic analytical chemistry principles and a commitment to safe laboratory practices are essential. To be considered at an analyst level, candidates must have one year of professional experience with ICP-MS.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline and 0-2 years of experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories OR 3 years of relevant experience (i.e. Sample Prep) (Required)
  • Advanced English language skills (Required)
  • Basic reasoning and mathematical skills (Required)
  • Basic computer skills (Required)
  • Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required)
  • One year of professional experience with ICP-MS.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline and 1-2 years of years’ relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepares and analyzes samples according to SGS’ analytical SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies.
  • Performs routine operation, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment.
  • May assist with validation and LOQ studies.
  • Assists with investigation and preparation of responses to client inquiries and CAPs.
  • Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support laboratory functions/operations.
  • Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
