About The Position

Our Carson, CA laboratory is looking for a Laboratory Analyst to join their team! The Laboratory Analyst prepares and analyzes samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. The Laboratory Analyst works independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. The Laboratory Analyst understands and applies basic analytical science principles. The Laboratory Analyst always follows safe laboratory practices and maintains a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in a Geology or similar scientific discipline and 0-2 years of experience in Analytical Laboratories OR 3 years of relevant experience (i.e. Sample Prep) (Required)
  • Basic mathematical and reasoning skills (Required)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) (Required)
  • Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Geology or similar scientific discipline and 1-2 years of years’ relevant experience in Geology Laboratories (Preferred)
  • Experience with GCMS and Organics methods (Preferred)
  • Experience with LIMS (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and analyzes samples according to SGS’ analytical SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies.
  • Performs routine operation, maintenance, calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment.
  • Assists with investigation, and preparation of responses to client inquiries and CARs.
  • Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations.
  • Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Perform asbestos analyses according to established laboratory procedures and regulatory methods.
  • Conduct Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) analysis of bulk building materials.
  • Perform Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis of air samples.
  • Prepare samples using approved preparation techniques including gravimetric reductions and other applicable procedures.
  • Review sample information for completeness and document observations accurately.
