About The Position

The Lab Aide is responsible for manufacturing blood products according to cGMP compliant policies and procedures implemented by Blood Bank of Delmarva, Inc. This position is considered “essential” during severe weather or emergency operation events. Schedule Requirement: Day Shift: Wednesday-Saturday, 6:00am-4:00pm or 8:00am-6:00pm. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years of experience following strict Standard Operating Procedures or strict guidelines.
  • 1+ year of experience utilizing recordkeeping skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computer software packages such as Microsoft office and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares blood components according to approved procedures and techniques such as: red blood cells, fresh frozen and recovered plasma, cryoprecipitate, leukocyte-reduced red cells.
  • Performs bacterial detection and platelet yields.
  • Weighs and enters data for each unit of blood received into the Component Laboratory to ensure accurate production records are maintained.
  • Prepares whole blood units for centrifugation according to approved protocol.
  • Enters component data into computer and verifies accurate interim labeling (as appropriate) by unit, to ensure physical inventories accurately reflect electronic records.
  • Ensures proper destruction and documentation of final disposition for all non-usable products.
  • May perform miscellaneous tasks including, but not limited to: equipment quality control cleaning and maintenance, monitoring of blood storage devices, labeling, packing of recovered products, receiving orders/requests from hospital customers.
