About The Position

Responsible for performing technical and clerical duties within the inpatient pharmacy distribution system. The IV Pharmacy Technician is responsible for sterile compounding using the principles of aseptic technique. Compounded sterile preparations (CSPs) are prepared in compliance with USP 797 utilizing laminar airflow workbenches and/or biological safety cabinets. Tasks include medication and supply inventory management, medication preparation, medication distribution to patient care units and automated dispensing cabinets, regulatory compliance and other tasks necessary to support safe medication distribution. Competencies required for Pharmacy Technician Level 1 must be successfully completed within 6 months of start date and at annual evaluations thereafter.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • All Pharmacy Technicians must be registered with the Florida Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician or licensed Pharmacist Intern prior to their first day of employment.
  • Demonstrate ability to lift 30+ pounds.
  • Demonstrate ability to operate calculator, telecommunication equipment, and computer workstation.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of compounding sterile products (including hazardous agents).
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of medications including brand and generic names.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, rules, and regulatory standards.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of hospital or community pharmacy experience.
  • Experience with aseptic technique, sterile compounding, and USP 797 requirements.
  • Completion of Military Hospital Core school and/or Field Medical Service school.
  • One year (24 credit hours) of college level study which must include successful completion of the following subjects: Algebra, Chemistry, Biology.

  • Successfully completing aseptic technique assessment and other required IV competencies.
  • Maintaining baseline math competency and performing necessary calculations to accurately prepare medication doses.

  • Ensuring safety, accuracy, and timeliness when completing work.
  • Triaging work appropriately.
