About The Position

The Kubernetes Engineer (Senior) is responsible for managing and orchestrating containerized applications while ensuring system scalability, reliability, availability, and performance. This position supports cloud-based microservices architectures in AWS EKS and works closely with development and cross-functional teams to maintain secure, efficient, and highly available Kubernetes environments.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes concepts, including pods, services, and deployments.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
  • Experience managing Kubernetes within AWS EKS environments.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes networking, including CNI plugins and ingress controllers such as Kubernetes Gateway.
  • Experience with Helm and Kustomize for configuration and application management.
  • Experience managing and utilizing observability tools such as Grafana and Istio.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes security best practices, network policies, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues within Kubernetes environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain Kubernetes deployments supporting cloud-based microservices architectures in AWS EKS.
  • Automate application deployment and scaling processes to improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitor Kubernetes cluster health, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of Kubernetes environments.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to support CI/CD pipelines and provide guidance on best practices for containerized applications.
  • Implement Kubernetes security best practices, including network policies and disaster recovery processes.
  • Manage and support containerized applications and associated Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Apply Kubernetes networking concepts, including CNI plugins and ingress controllers such as Kubernetes Gateway.
  • Utilize configuration-as-code tools, including Helm and Kustomize, to manage the application layer within Kubernetes.
  • Manage and utilize observability tools such as Grafana and Istio.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues within Kubernetes environments.
  • Stay current with new Kubernetes features and tools and integrate appropriate technologies into existing environments as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with customers, development teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
