KSB/KSD Instructional Assistant
About The Position
The Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) is seeking a KSB/KSD Instructional Assistant for its Instructional Section. KSB has a mission to provide comprehensive educational services to all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired, from birth to 21, aiming to empower them to develop their talents, skills, and attitudes to become confident, competent, and independent adults. In this role, the Instructional Assistant will work under the direction of a teacher or houseparent, providing support to students with daily living skills, classroom assignments, material preparation, and transportation to various activities and locations.
Requirements
- High School graduate
- Two (2) years of experience working within a school or classroom environment
- Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
- An employee in this job title at the Kentucky School for the Deaf must furnish to the agency's appointing authority within twelve (12) months of appointment or entrance into this class, documentation that he or she possesses the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) rating of "Survival" level
- Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in the classroom with instructional activities and lessons
- Tutor individual students following teacher instructions
- Prepare materials for classrooms such as braille, large print, bulletin boards and student progress reports
- Assist students to various activities and places in the building and on campus
