Primary Role: Provides clerical support and assists KSD Teachers with instructional programs.

Requirements

  • High School graduate
  • Two (2) years of experience working within a school or classroom environment.
  • American Sign Language (ASL) skills
  • An employee in this job title at the Kentucky School for the Deaf must furnish to the agency's appointing authority within twelve (12) months of appointment or entrance into this class, documentation that he or she possesses the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) rating of "Survival" level.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students with disabilities in a classroom setting, during transition between buildings and classes and on school trips. Works individuals or in small groups with students.
  • Assists classroom teachers with instructional needs. Collaborate with teachers and accept direction/guidance from teachers. Follow expectations established by classroom teacher. Assist with preparation of instructional materials.
  • Works with behavior challenged students with appropriate behavior techniques. Attends training offered by the school relating to education. May cover classes when necessary.
  • Provides office support and coverage as needed to include answering phones, greeting visitors, filing and making copies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
