Based in any U.S. office (New York preferred), the Knowledge Attorney will sit at the intersection of legal practice, technology, and experimentation within the Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Practice Groups. This role is designed for a lawyer with a strong transactional foundation who is deeply engaged with how AI, technology, and new ways of working are reshaping legal practice and will continue to transform legal practice in the years to come. The ideal candidate brings substantive credibility to earn the trust of practicing lawyers, combined with an innovator’s mindset energized by designing, testing, and scaling new tools, workflows, and systems. As part of the Knowledge Management & AI Group, this position collaborates across offices and administrative teams—including Research, Practice Group Management, and Information Technology—to translate emerging technology into practical, high-impact tools for lawyers and clients. This role reports to the Chief Legal Operations Officer and the Sr. Director & Counsel of Knowledge & AI.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated passion for AI and emerging technology, including a strong perspective on how such tools can be applied to M&A and Private Equity legal practice and workflows.

  • A J.D., Bachelor of Laws, or equivalent with strong academic credentials; must be admitted to practice and in good standing in the state where they will be based.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in M&A and/or Private Equity; other transactional backgrounds will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply legal training to new contexts, including workflow design, tool development, or process improvement efforts; personal or professional coding or tech-related building experience is very highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to apply AI, automation, and emerging technologies to M&A and Private Equity matters, including public and private acquisitions, mergers, carve-outs, spinoffs, joint ventures, minority and growth investments, sponsor transactions, and related matter types, informed by a strong understanding of transactional practice and lawyer workflows.
  • Evaluate, prototype, and implement AI-assisted tools, document automation solutions, prompt libraries, and technology-enabled workflows to enhance efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
  • Participate in technology pilots and assessments, including AI-driven research, drafting, knowledge extraction, data, due diligence, and market analytics platforms.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, technologists, and administrative teams to design practical, user-centered tools that reflect real-world legal judgment and practice needs.
  • Lead training sessions for attorneys and staff to promote the effective use of knowledge systems, AI tools, and new workflows.
  • Capture feedback from lawyers and stakeholders to support continuous improvement of KM products, processes, and technology adoption.
  • Support the ongoing enhancement of the Firm’s M&A and Private Equity drafting resources by integrating evolving legal developments, market terms, and transaction structures into model documents, guidance materials, and related content, with a focus on modernizing the way such resources are organized, maintained, and leveraged.
  • Use AI-assisted tools and structured review mechanisms to analyze, compare, and refine M&A and Private Equity precedents and drafting materials against internal standards, public company filings, and evolving market practice.
  • Help build and maintain scalable precedent and knowledge infrastructure that improves consistency, promotes knowledge reuse, and supports document automation and legal technology initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted internal resource for M&A and Private Equity lawyers, providing practical legal judgment and guidance while translating substantive expertise into effective knowledge and technology solutions.
