About The Position

The Knitting Operator is responsible for maintaining and running knitting machines according to production and quality specifications. This role involves machine maintenance, ensuring safety, meeting production targets for quality and quantity, and maintaining a clean work area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Diploma
  • Basic mathematical calculation skills
  • Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to operate lift equipment (pallet jack or lift truck and battery-controlled lifts)

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the production schedule for your machines
  • Perform machine set-ups and welds
  • Lower rolls of plastic film (150 to 225 lbs.) to the floor, pick them up with a power lift, and place them on the machine
  • Locate and fix broken threads
  • Recognize and tighten loose or floppy film
  • Clean and replace rolls of filament or monofilament thread, adjusting tension as necessary
  • Replace empty draw cord spools
  • Identify machines and mesh types that require oiling
  • Check waste from slitters, adjust tension, and empty waste wheels
  • Understand the difference between warp and weft
  • Know what needles and guides are
  • Correctly unload the doff unit, set roll position, reset meter, position weight bar, reload doff bar, and verify production counts
  • Know the identification numbers of your machines
  • Walk around machines to check for and mark defects
  • Call a mechanic when machine attention is needed
  • Report all accidents to your supervisor
  • Keep your area clean, including taking out trash, cores, or film
  • Verify changeovers, ensure machine set-up is correct, and confirm it has passed quality inspection
  • Restock supplies for the next shift, including film, draw cord, filament, and trimmed cores
  • Get and give reports to other shifts
