About The Position

The Knight School Teacher will provide support for students working with virtual courses or SOL remediation. Students are working to earn a high school diploma. Students will attend class Monday-Thursday at Lugo-McGinness Academy. The position hours are 3:45 PM to 6:45 PM.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field.
A valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching License or eligibility for a license is required.
Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
Significant fine finger dexterity.

Responsibilities

Facilitates the virtual learning (Edgenuity) instruction for students.
Instructs students in a program of studies that meets stated objectives and prepares students to master grade-level standards.
Works collaboratively with secondary teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors, and related service providers in the overall educational plan for students enrolled at the Knight School.
Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction and actively engage students.
Fully supports and implements Social Emotional Learning, encouraging students to build self-awareness, self-management, and relationship skills.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors.
Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
Communicates regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress.
Participates in various student and parent activities.
Coordinates the development, implementation, and revision of the curriculum for alternative education with the LMA Administrator.
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
Meets with parents to support student needs and interventions for academic support.
