About The Position

The Knife Sharpener is responsible for safely, accurately, and efficiently sharpening knives, scissors, and other assigned tools used by production departments. This role supports safe and effective production operations by ensuring team members have properly sharpened tools needed to perform their work. The Knife Sharpener must be detail-oriented, safety-focused, and able to communicate clearly with department leaders, supervisors, team members, and management. This position plays an important role in supporting production flow, tool readiness, workplace safety, and overall operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Good attendance is required.
  • Ability to work in a cold and wet environment.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with supervisors, leads, and team members.
  • Ability to document and communicate information clearly as needed.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to sharpen tools accurately and safely.
  • Good mechanical and technical skills.
  • Ability and willingness to be trained in sharpening skills, if necessary.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Willingness to work and support production needs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to follow safety requirements, company policies, and department procedures.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience sharpening knives, scissors, or production tools.
  • Prior experience in poultry processing, food processing, manufacturing, production, or a similar environment.
  • Experience using sharpening equipment or other mechanical tools.
  • Familiarity with production safety requirements and personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently sharpen knives, scissors, and other assigned tools for production team members.
  • Ensure tools are sharpened accurately and returned in proper working conditions.
  • Communicate verbally with supervisors, leads, and team members regarding tool needs, sharpening status, or related concerns.
  • Document and communicate information clearly with department leads, supervisors, and management as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Follow all safety requirements, company policies, and department procedures.
  • Use sharpening equipment and related tools safely and properly.
  • Participate in training as needed to develop or improve sharpening skills.
  • Work overtime as needed based on production and department needs.
  • Support production departments by helping ensure tools are available and ready for use.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
