About The Position

The Knife Sharpening Equipment Operator is responsible for the precise and safe operation of knife sharpening equipment. This role ensures all knives meet strict quality and safety standards before being distributed for use. The operator will also be responsible for managing knife inventory, maintaining detailed records, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment. This position requires constant awareness of surroundings due to the presence of heavy machinery and the handling of sharp equipment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with knife sharpening or machine operation is a plus.
  • Meticulous attention to detail is crucial for quality control, record-keeping, and ensuring safety.
  • A strong commitment to workplace safety and a constant awareness of potential hazards.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and accurately report information.
  • 6 months of continuous work history in the last 12 months.
  • Applications will be considered from the following Arkansas counties: Washington, Benton, and Madison.
  • If you were previously employed at Tyson, there’s a 180-day waiting period before you can reapply.
  • You can apply if you’ve worked at Tyson no more than two times.
  • If you had a failed drug screen, you must wait 6 months before reapplying.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate various knife sharpening equipment to achieve a high-quality, precise edge.
  • Utilize the Anago knife tester to perform sharpness tests on knives before and after use.
  • Confirm that all sharpened knives are within specified sharpness ranges.
  • Report any knives that are out of specification to the supervisor immediately.
  • Collect and count knives at the end of each work shift to ensure an accurate inventory.
  • Distribute knives to designated production areas as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of the number of knives dispensed to each line to ensure accurate accountability.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Remain aware of moving equipment, such as pallet jacks.
  • Handle all sharp equipment with extreme care to prevent lacerations.
  • Clean and sanitize any knives returned to the knife room during the shift.
  • Be cautious of surrounding machinery.
  • Verify routine cleaning and maintenance on all sharpening equipment.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor promptly.
