About The Position

Operation Kindness Humane Society is seeking a Part-time Kitten Nursery Technician to provide lifesaving neonatal feline medical care. This role is crucial for our new around-the-clock nursery for neonatal kittens. The technician will provide excellent care for in-house patients to help save kitten lives and prepare them for adoption. The nursery operates under strict policies, procedures, and processes, requiring a high degree of attention to detail due to the intensive nature of neonatal kitten care. This specialized position focuses on saving the most fragile lives.

Requirements

Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
6 months of experience working with cats in a medical or general care capacity, either through employment or volunteer work.
Familiarity with concepts of disease transmission and prevention.
Genuine liking for animals and for working in an animal care environment.
Ability to handle cats and kittens and spend extensive periods of time with those animals in close quarters effectively and safely.
Support Operation Kindness’s mission and understand how it is organized and functions as a non-profit organization.
Ability to work equally well with staff members, clients, and volunteers.
Ability to relate well to persons with varied backgrounds and beliefs.
Positive attitude; open to new ideas.
Lifting and carrying animals and shelter materials weighing up to 20 lbs; assistance provided for items over 40 lbs.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

Experience administering oral medications, monitoring temperature, giving injections, and weighing patients.
Experience in handling neonatal patients through employment or volunteer work.

Responsibilities

Efficiently and safely bottle-feed multiple litters of kittens, aged from 1 day to 6 weeks, adhering to established feeding and disease control protocols.
Follow strict sanitation procedures to prevent disease transmission between litters.
Carry out daily cleaning tasks to maintain a sterile, contagion-free nursery environment.
Train nursery volunteers in feeding and sanitation procedures.
Monitor critical patients while maintaining feeding of the nursery population.
Administer medications and provide treatment, including care for critical patients (e.g., assisting in physical examinations, administering injections, oral medications, fluid therapy, syringe feeding, and enemas).
Follow medical protocols outlined by Operation Kindness.
Assist staff in working with the Foster Coordinator to ready kittens for placement in foster homes.
Keep animal records current, including intake paperwork, feeding charts, and medical logs.
Assist in managing inventory of all Kitten Nursery supplies, ensuring necessary supplies are always stocked.
Assist staff in working with veterinarians to determine proper treatment of sick or injured kittens.
Report suspicion of animal abuse or neglect to the Intake and Foster Lead or Manager.
Always follow Standard Precautions and other safety regulations.
Complete all necessary and requested training in a timely manner.
Attend staff meetings.
Participate in shelter events as requested by Supervisor.
Perform other duties as requested by Supervisor or higher-level manager.
