About The Position

The Kitchen Steward role is critical to maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for both guests and staff. The ideal candidate possesses a strong knowledge of best sanitization practices in foodservice settings and demonstrates an exceptional attention to detail. This position requires physical stamina and the ability to move kitchen and dining equipment to ensure thorough cleaning of all surfaces and spaces.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous janitorial, custodial, or commercial cleaning experience, ideally in a food service or restaurant setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitization procedures in accordance with health code regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, and twist for extended periods.
  • Frequently required to lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate janitorial tools and equipment safely.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals and restaurant waste.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of all kitchen workstations including grill, sauté, fryer, flat top, prep tables, and dishwashing stations.
  • Clean and sanitize bar and coffee station areas.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all equipment and report issues promptly.
  • Sweep, vacuum, and mop all floor surfaces in the kitchen, dining room, and restrooms.
  • Disinfect restrooms and ensure they are fully stocked and odor-free.
  • Clean and polish overhead lighting fixtures, furniture, and dining surfaces.
  • Sanitize refrigeration units, walk-in coolers, and storage areas.
  • Degrease all work stations in the back of the house.
  • Remove trash and recycling from all areas and dispose of waste according to health and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor and replenish cleaning and sanitation supplies as needed.
  • Move, lift, and reposition kitchen equipment, prep tables, furniture, and appliances to clean underneath and behind them.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation protocols per local health department standards and company policies.
  • Notify management of any safety issues, necessary repairs, maintenance concerns, and safety issues.
