About The Position

The Kitchen Specialist is an Educational Support Professional in the Food and Nutrition department at North Middle School. The role assists the Lead Kitchen Specialist or Secondary Kitchen Manager with food preparation and service, specializing in an assigned preparation area such as cooking, baking, or cold food service. The position is 0.94 FTE and works 173 days per year. It reports to the Secondary Kitchen Manager or Production Center Manager. The work is performed in a kitchen.

The position is non-exempt. A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of food-preparation experience in a school system are required. ServSafe Certification is required within 89 calendar days of hire. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

For the 2026–2027 school year, employees in this category receive non-recurring pay equal to 7% of base salary, distributed as 3.5% on the November paycheck and 3.5% on the May paycheck. The posting also describes a Staffing Stability Incentive for ESP employees at Adams Elementary, Galileo Middle School, and Mitchell High School. Compensation and salary placement are determined under the applicable ESP salary schedule and experience-based placement rules.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Knowledge of volume food-preparation methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Ability to perform designated food-preparation tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing food.
• Concentrate on designated food-preparation activities and specialize in cooking, baking, or cold food service as assigned.
• Assist with service of prepared food as needed.
• Serve on the food line or collect monies as needed.
• Clean and disinfect work areas, equipment, and facilities.
• Stock shelves and assist with food storage as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Perform the duties of the Secondary Manager in their absence.
