About The Position

Pottawattamie County Conservation is hiring a full-time seasonal Kitchen Manager from November through March or the duration of the ski season. This role supervises daily food and beverage operations, working with the Site Manager to ensure efficiency. The position offers an opportunity for adventure at Crescent Hill at Hitchcock this winter.

Requirements

  • Must be eighteen (18) years old at the time of hire.
  • Prior experience handling a cash drawer and using a register.
  • At least 2 years of kitchen experience.
  • General knowledge of and ability to manage a kitchen and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and good rapport with individuals of all ages.
  • Familiarity with kitchen sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the food industry as a kitchen manager is preferred.
  • Previous experience planning a menu and ordering ingredients.
  • Flexibility to work during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in hiring kitchen staff for the season and creating functional schedules.
  • Facilitate the training of kitchen staff on all aspects of food and beverage operations, including POS system, kitchen equipment, sanitation, food preparation, and presentation.
  • Train staff on proper prep work, side work, opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure inventory is taken properly and in a timely fashion.
  • Determine ordering needs for food, beverages, cleaning supplies, condiments, utensils, and food safety items, and report to the Site Manager.
  • Follow and maintain all sanitation and safety standards as outlined by law, including employee health, hygiene, proper storage and labeling of food, and sanitization of equipment and prep areas.
  • Ensure the facility is maintained in accordance with the Iowa Food Code.
  • Supervise food prep and cooking, checking food for presentation, temperature, and portion sizes.
  • Work with the Site Manager to price menu items and create promotional materials.
  • Track food and beverage sales to determine ordering quantities and reduce waste.
  • Use POS machine, close out the POS terminal, balance the cash drawer, and complete necessary paperwork for sales accounting.
  • Check in deliveries and verify received goods against vendor invoices.
  • Work with other departments when needed and perform other duties as assigned.
