About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Dietary Manager, and or designee and within hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the Kitchen Helper is responsible for preparing and assembling cold food items, setting up patient trays, supplying floor pantries, assisting in the dish room, making coffee, setting up hospital functions, and general cleaning duties. The role requires courteous interaction with patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and employees, and a commitment to service excellence.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Able to interact and relate to public and fellow workers.
  • Ability to work in a flexible environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assemble cold food items in accordance with census and hospital specifications.
  • Set up patient trays according to menus and diet instructions; assist with delivery of trays when needed and return trays to dietary after meals.
  • Supply floor pantries with needed listed food items.
  • Clean pantries and clean and defrost refrigerators as assigned.
  • Make and deliver requested between-meal nourishments.
  • Assist in dish room with de-traying, dishwashing, and storage of clean dish items.
  • Take fruit and vegetable inventory twice weekly, as assigned.
  • Make coffee for Hospital meetings.
  • Set up hospital functions under supervision of the Food Service Manager or designee.
  • Sweep and mop Kitchen, walk in, and storeroom floors daily.
  • Perform other general cleaning as assigned.
  • Wash pots, pans and utensils, and help with vegetable prep.
  • Complete production for all dietary needs.
  • Wear facility provided identification badge.
