About The Position

Under the training of the Registered Dietitian, the Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the center serves all participant meals in a safe, sanitary, and appetizing manner. The Kitchen Coordinator is also responsible for preparing, serving, and cleaning up after all meals and snacks are served. The Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for keeping emergency food and water inventory and maintaining the area clean, safe, and functional. The Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all CACFP kitchen requirements are met.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Working knowledge of food service sanitation, food safety, and cleaning methods, with a willingness to perform them daily.
  • Ability to prepare accurate written reports.
  • Ability to comprehend both written and spoken English.
  • An interest and desire to work with the target population served by the center.
  • T.B. and physical clearance for reaching, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and grasping; have full range of motion; ability to lift 50 lbs; may need to lift and transfer participants.
  • Pre-employment requirements include I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs.
  • Compliance with all mandated vaccinations and all boosters is a term and condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of food services, sanitation, ordering, and record keeping.
  • Direct staff with food service, cleaning, sanitizing, stock rotation, emergency food supply, and other assigned tasks.
  • Purchase supplies and alternate menus necessary to prepare meals for the center as outlined on the approved center menu, under the direction of the RD.
  • Assist the dietitian with menu planning, communicating participant likes and dislikes.
  • Ensure the kitchen is in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in the food preparation area.
  • Notify the Registered Dietitian of necessary food and supplies, both daily and for emergencies.
  • Complete documentation related to CACFP reports, including menu changes, recording meals offered and served, ensuring the food transport log is complete, and completing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.
  • Ensure maintenance of documentation records for weekly thermometer calibration, daily refrigerator temperature, dishwasher temperature, ice maker professional cleaning, and daily food temperatures.
  • Perform all necessary tasks in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Assist other center staff in serving meals and snacks.
  • Ensure all special diets ordered are served to the appropriate participant under Nurse/RD supervision.
  • Clean and organize work area and disinfect kitchen and equipment after use.
  • May participate in patient care tasks, such as assisting with passing food trays and feeding participants.
  • Attend center staff meetings and in-service educational training programs.
  • Ensure all open containers have been labeled and dated.
  • Assist with participant badges to ensure they receive appropriate diets.
  • Update participant diet lists provided by RD on a regular basis and ensure all CNAs are informed of any changes.
  • Carry out assigned tasks as deemed necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards, including following infection disease precautions to prevent the spread of organisms.
