About The Position

The University of Guelph Child Care and Learning Centre (CCLC) is seeking a Temporary Part Time (TPT) Kitchen Assistant to join their kitchen team. This role supports the Child Care Cook with daily snack and lunch preparation, delivery, and clean-up. The Kitchen Assistant will also be trained to lead kitchen operations and cover short-term absences of the Child Care Cook due to illness or vacation.

Requirements

• Equivalent to partial secondary school
• 1 year of job experience
• Valid Food Handlers Certificate
• Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR-C
• Current Vulnerable Sector Police Check
• Verification of required immunizations
• Experience working in a commercial kitchen
• Culinary and/or knife skills
• Demonstrated ability to guide/mentor support students, and volunteers
• Basic computer and technological skills
• Demonstrated excellent attendance record
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

• Culinary training or education
• Experience in a child care kitchen

Responsibilities

• Cooking for large groups as well as people with allergies and food restrictions
• Assisting in the preparation of fruits/vegetables and specialty meals
• Delivering meals to the classrooms
• Verifying allergy sign off forms, and communication of restrictions and substitutes to teaching staff upon food delivery
• Problem solving, multi-tasking, organizing and prioritizing
• Performing repetitive tasks such as peeling and chopping produce
• Following recipes and directions
• Menu planning and recipe creation in collaboration with Child Care Cook
• Following Public Health and Ministry Guidelines
