About The Position

Greenwich House's Older Adult Network is seeking a Kitchen Aide to provide support and assistance across four Manhattan-based Older Adult Centers. The Kitchen Aide is expected to uphold high standards of sanitation, provide courteous assistance to members, and work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to support daily operations and a welcoming environment. The Kitchen Aide supports daily food service operations by assisting with meal service, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment. This role ensures compliance with all health, safety, and organizational guidelines.

Requirements

  • Must have completed the Board of Health (BOH) Food Preparation Course or be able to complete within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Must be able to perform physical labor, lift up to 50 lbs. and spend a significant portion of the shift on their feet.
  • Able to learn basic tasks and to understand written and oral communications.
  • Able to work effectively and patiently with seniors and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that Center members receive their meals in a timely, respectful, and efficient manner, while maintaining order, cleanliness, and safety in the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Supporting all aspects of meal service, including preparation, distribution, and cleanup, and helping ensure compliance with all applicable food service and program guidelines.
  • Assisting with the setup and breakdown of Center programs and activities, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment as needed.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment throughout all areas of the Center, not limited to the kitchen and dining space.
  • Partnering with the center director to monitor and ensure compliance with NYC Department for the Aging regulatory standards and NYC Board of Health regulations as they relate to food service and building environment.
  • Preparing, handling, and serving meals.
  • Receiving food, taking temperatures upon arrival and when serving.
  • Maintaining facility cleanliness and readiness.
  • Cleaning and storing all utensils, dishes, and other food service equipment.
  • Washing, sanitizing, and setting up the dining room area after lunch.
  • Maintaining order and cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room.
  • Sweeping and mopping dining room, kitchen, and Center spaces.
  • Setting up and taking down the dining room and program rooms.
  • Disinfecting and cleaning dining room tables and chairs.
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings and required training as necessary.
  • Performing other tasks and special projects as assigned by Center Director or designee or Director of Senior Services.
  • Performing other duties and services as needed.
