About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in the kitchen and dining hall operations at Camp Big Bear, ensuring cleanliness, proper food service, and adherence to safety and health guidelines. The role involves maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining environment, assisting with meal setup and cleanup, and upholding the camp's core character values in interactions with staff and guests.

Requirements

  • Must have a current Certified Food Worker Card in compliance with the County of San Bernardino Department of Public Health.
  • Experience in food service.
  • Dress in proper and required attire while on duty - be identifiable to staff and guests.
  • Safe use of sharp kitchen wares.
  • Computers, phones, activity equipment, etc. are YMCA property and are not for personal use.
  • Attendance at staff meetings and in-house trainings is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Camp Big Bear Covid-19 operating policies and procedures.
  • Set up serving tables with utensils and silverware before meals.
  • Set up the dirty dish receiving area before meals.
  • Keep silverware stocked at serving tables during meal service.
  • Monitor the dirty dish receiving area at the end of meals.
  • Wash all tableware and appropriate kitchen equipment using a presoak and dish machine system.
  • Wash larger kitchen equipment using a 3-stage sink system.
  • Return all kitchen equipment to proper storage after air drying.
  • Keep the dining hall clean, including sweeping and mopping floors, washing furnishings, doors, windows, walls, etc.
  • Empty all trash receptacles in the kitchen and dining hall when necessary.
  • Keep the kitchen bathroom clean.
  • Relate to other staff and guests in a manner that exemplifies core character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Report unsafe conditions and malfunctioning equipment to the Head Cook immediately.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties when needed.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with camp staff at all times.
  • Communicate all concerns with camp staff, lease groups, and program participants directly to the Camp Director in a timely manner.
