About The Position

The mission of the Children’s Museum Houston is to transform communities through innovative, child-centered learning that improves the trajectories of all children in Greater Houston. For more than four decades, Children's Museum Houston has supported student achievement, empowered parents, and ignited a life-long love of learning. We are consistently rated as one of the top children's museums in the nation. Our programming serves more than 900,000 participants annually at the Museum, at the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center, and at the 270+ outreach locations across Greater Houston. We welcome families with offerings that include 13 exhibits, a performing arts series, a full slate of cultural programming, science activities led by degreed educators, and weekly Free Family Nights. This role specifically supports the Parent Stars program, a parent engagement initiative focused on helping parents of school-age children promote science, math, and literacy learning at home and in the classroom. The Parent Stars team facilitates over 170 Family Learning Events annually in elementary and middle schools throughout the Greater Houston Area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Proficient in using PC computers.
  • Ability to travel throughout the city and region to observe Parent Stars programming in a variety of settings. (Travel is 10% of overall time)
  • Punctual, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish)
  • Experience working in educational settings preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare thematic activity kits with appropriate supplies to be user ready.
  • Assists with the sanitation and restocking of all learning materials.
  • Supports all ongoing operations, including light clerical duties, unpacking supplies, inventory, restocking, preparing copies, and organizing materials.
  • Participates in the organization of all post event documents, including surveys and sign in sheets, for all events and returns to Parent Stars managerial team.
  • Attends planning and other meetings as requested.
  • Relays any immediate workroom need to the Parents Stars manager.
  • Monitor and report inventory levels of all activity and event materials.
  • Coordinates the cleaning schedule for incoming and outgoing family learning event kits.
