About The Position

The Kindergarten Teacher will teach students in a manner that they can apply the knowledge and skill required for College and Career Readiness in accordance with the Mississippi Framework and Common Core Curriculum. This role involves instructing students in citizenship and basic subject matter, developing lesson plans, and providing individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. The teacher will also be responsible for evaluating student growth, communicating with parents, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Possession of (or eligible for) a valid regular Mississippi teaching certificate in vacant area.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to students.
  • Implements strategies outlined by the district.
  • Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, cooperative learning, lecture, discovery, etc.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities and professional growth activities.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the day and on all field lessons.
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with state/district testing programs.
  • Participates in Professional Learning Communities, faculty committees, and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Uses student data to guide instruction and professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
