About The Position

Washington Elementary is seeking a Kindergarten Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This position operates under the MEA Master Agreement Calendar. The teacher will report to the Principal and is responsible for planning and delivering developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with state standards and district curriculum. The role involves teaching foundational skills, utilizing play-based learning, establishing routines, differentiating instruction, monitoring student progress, and creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment. Collaboration with colleagues, support staff, and parents is essential, as is participation in professional development and adherence to district policies.

Requirements

  • Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills
  • Knowledge of child development and elementary curriculum

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with state standards and district curriculum
  • Teach foundational skills in early literacy, numeracy, social studies, science, and social-emotional learning
  • Use play-based, hands-on, and experiential learning strategies to support student engagement
  • Establish consistent routines and expectations that promote positive behavior and independence
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including English learners and students with disabilities
  • Monitor and assess student progress using observation, formative assessments, and screening tools
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance and progress reports
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Integrate technology and instructional materials appropriate for early learners
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administrators to support student growth
  • Participate in the development and implementation of IEPs, 504 Plans, and early intervention plans
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations
  • Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional times
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events
  • Uphold district policies, procedures, and professional ethics
