About The Position

The Kindergarten – First Grade Combination Teacher should hold SDA elementary teaching certification and possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. The teacher provides a nurturing, Christ-centered classroom that supports the academic, spiritual, emotional, social, and physical development of young learners in a multi-grade classroom in alignment with the school mission of educating the head, the hand, and the heart. The teacher will implement developmentally appropriate instructional practices aligned with Standards-Based Education while differentiating instruction to meet the individual needs of Kindergarten and First Grade students. The teacher is expected to build strong partnerships with families and model Christian values in every aspect of school life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary
  • SDA Elementary Teaching Credential or ability to obtain
  • Experience teaching primary grades
  • Experience in multi-grade classrooms
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young children, parents, faculty, and administration.
  • Ability to prepare newsletters, student reports, lesson plans, and parent communications.
  • Knowledge of elementary mathematics appropriate for Kindergarten and First Grade instruction.
  • Ability to apply sound educational practices while meeting the developmental needs of young learners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with parents and staff to support student success.
  • Ability to manage classroom routines with patience, consistency, and Christian compassion.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement engaging instruction aligned with adopted curriculum and California standards while meeting the developmental needs of both Kindergarten and First Grade.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students with varying readiness levels, learning styles, and developmental stages.
  • Foster literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, fine motor, gross motor, social-emotional learning, and spiritual growth.
  • Create a warm, nurturing, and Christ-centered classroom environment where students feel safe, valued, and encouraged.
  • Promote curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and independent.
  • Monitor student progress using developmentally appropriate formal and informal.
  • Maintain standards for positive classroom behavior using restorative and age-appropriate strategies.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student growth and classroom.
  • Maintain current grades, student records, portfolios, report cards, and assessment.
  • Supervise students during classroom, playground, lunch, dismissal, and school activities as assigned.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student success and school.
  • Integrate faith naturally into classroom instruction and daily.
  • Maintain an organized, attractive, safe, and developmentally appropriate classroom.
  • Participate in parent conferences, open houses, curriculum nights, and school.
  • Demonstrate a lifestyle consistent with Seventh-day Adventist Christian.
  • Fulfill adjunct duties including supervision, committees, school programs, and other responsibilities assigned by the principal.
