About The Position

This position is for a Kindergarten/1st Grade Teacher at Adams Elementary. Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Seattle Education Association, split-grade assignments are reserved for experienced teachers, not first-year teachers. Beginning teachers must demonstrate proficiency in three evaluation domains to be considered. The role involves fostering an effective learning environment, developing curriculum, establishing learning objectives, providing instruction, counseling students, and evaluating student performance. The teacher will plan instructional programs to meet diverse student needs, including at-risk or special needs youth, and utilize appropriate instructional methods and materials. They will also establish classroom policies, manage student behavior, provide guidance and discipline, and communicate with parents and staff. The teacher will set classroom goals aligned with state and district guidelines, evaluate and record student progress, and prepare reports. Additionally, the role includes directing non-certificated personnel and participating in staff meetings and professional development activities.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree
Academic preparation for or experience in teaching a culturally, racially and economically diverse student population in an urban school system.
Proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communications.
Effective communication with parents or guardians in a diverse community.
Designing and implementing lesson plans for students having a wide range of achievement.
Dealing with students in a positive and confident manner.
Being fair and consistent when working with a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population.
Adapting to change and remaining flexible.
Organizing activities.
Managing student behavior.
Using good judgment to maintain a safe learning environment.
Providing instruction and demonstrating techniques.
Using necessary equipment, computers, machinery, tools, or software.
Directing assistants.
Establishing and maintaining effective, positive working relationships with students, parents or guardians, staff and administrators.
Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
Criminal Justice fingerprint and background check.

Nice To Haves

Experienced teacher (not a first-year teacher) for split-grade assignments.
Beginning teachers must be proficient in three domains of the evaluation to be eligible for this position.
Working with bilingual students and assisting them in the transition to regular classrooms.
Implementing programs designed to prevent the dropout of 'at risk' students.
Teaching multi-level, open-concept, and main streamed classes.
Valid first aid and CPR certification (some positions may require).
Valid Washington State driver's license and/or a Class II driver's license (some positions may require).

Responsibilities

Fosters and enhances an effective learning environment for assigned students.
Plans and implements instructional programs designed to meet individual student needs and whole groups, including at-risk or special needs youth.
Prepares lesson plans using appropriate instructional methods and materials.
Establishes and implements classroom policies and procedures governing student behavior and conduct.
Provides guidance, counseling, and discipline to encourage students to meet achievement and conduct standards.
Confers with students, parents or guardians, and other staff to provide guidance, evaluation, and encourage student achievement.
Establishes classroom goals and objectives in accordance with State and School District guidelines.
Evaluates and records student progress and prepares reports for parents or guardians.
Collects and interprets data for administrative purposes.
Directs the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel.
Attends required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal.
Serves on staff committees as required.
Participates in activities to enhance personal and professional skills.
Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.
