About The Position

The Kiln Operator will be responsible for the safe and productive control of plant operating equipment and processes, including the Waelz Kiln and all associated process/environmental control systems. The operator will adjust plant process controls and interface with other cross-functional teams to meet expected production and product quality rates in a safe and environmentally sound manner. The operator will assist in the collection of data and reporting as directed. The operator must also be able to interpret data and react correctly to keep the process under control.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and heavy industrial environment.
  • Willingness and ability to learn the techniques and processes of the Waelz Kiln and associated equipment.
  • Strong computer and typing skills.
  • Must complete and maintain any assigned company required training and certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Some vocational, technical or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience operating process control equipment in heavy industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and activities to create a safe, environmentally compliant workplace that produces high quality products in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Perform all duties and activities in a manner that is aligned with company values: Honesty, Loyalty, Humility, Respect and Responsibility.
  • Monitor process visually during physical inspections of Kiln equipment.
  • Monitor processes through visual system controls on an ongoing basis and adjust control parameters for maximum product quality and efficiency.
  • Monitor the efficiency of the pellet feed process: hoppers and belts operation, as well as the weigh feeders.
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties as required for assigned equipment and systems to ensure long-lasting & effective performance.
  • Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts and assist Maintenance when processes are down.
  • Assist with identifying the causes of unexpected malfunctions of equipment.
  • Prepare reports documenting work performed (written and typed in SAP system).
  • Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintain areas, parts, tools, and supplies utilizing Lean/5S methods.
  • Train and support new or transferred employees.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
