About The Position

This position is responsible for ensuring the trouble-free operation of the kiln feed end. The role involves checking various components, performing maintenance, collecting and processing samples to determine operational quality, conducting laboratory analysis, and recording test results. The operator will also read and record data from SCADA, meters, and gauges. In some cases, the position may be assigned to full-time maintenance work. A working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures related to kiln processes and equipment is required.

Requirements

Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
Six months experience in the operation of mechanical equipment, preferably components of kilns; OR experience working with sampling protocols and pump operations.
Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Must not be colorblind.

Promotional Qualifications: Must be a full-time permanent or part-time permanent employee in pay grade 114 (Wage) or below, pay grade 24 (Clerical) or below, or equivalent, and been employed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position.

Responsibilities

Ensuring trouble-free operation of the kiln feed end by checking belts, bearings, pump packings, thickener basins, recarbonation basins, carbon dioxide bleeder lines/blowers and material pumps.
Performing preventive maintenance or emergency repair work as needed.
Collecting samples, processing materials and determining the operational quality.
Performing laboratory analysis and recording test results.
Reading and recording data from SCADA, meters and gauges.
May be assigned to full-time maintenance work.
Must have a working knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with the kiln processes and its related equipment as well as necessary safety procedures.
