About The Position

This position is responsible for the direct supervision of children and implementing planned activities within the Kids Zone at the YMCA of the Suncoast James P. Gills Branch. The role requires a strong understanding of child safety, activity planning, and creating a nurturing environment. Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Ability to work well with children.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Completion of Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE upon hire.
  • Completion of Kids Zone University, Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Young Children, Principles of Youth Development, Youth Relationships: Creating Positive Interactions, and Youth Affirmations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement trainings within 90 days of hire.
  • Completion of Introduction to S.A.F.E, Foundations of Listen First, and Engaging with Families trainings within 6 months of hire.
  • Understanding of their relationship to the children, parents, the Branch, and the YMCA.
  • Character that is above reproach and worthy of emulation by the children.
  • Maturity and ability to relate to children from all social/economic segments of the community.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to maintain physical endurance for extended periods of time in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be alert at all times.
  • Acceptable hearing and visual capabilities to monitor environment and children's well-being.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of the YMCA, its goals, and how it operates as a local, national, and international movement is preferred.
  • Get SMART preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise children and implement planned activities.
  • Acquaint children with rules, activities, daily schedules, and the area.
  • Take responsibility for the safety and welfare of each child, including attendance.
  • Report all accidents to the Supervisor and complete necessary health logs and/or incident forms.
  • Plan, organize, and implement activity plans for special interest activities.
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity.
  • Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean the facility, and care for equipment.
  • Help maintain good working conditions, inventory, and clean-up after all activities.
  • Role model SMART behavior.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
