About The Position
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of children and implementing planned activities. The role requires a minimum age of 16 and the ability to work well with children. Understanding of the YMCA's mission and operations is preferred. The role involves creating a nurturing and safe environment, planning and implementing activities, and ensuring the safety and welfare of each child. The position also includes other duties as assigned and requires adherence to key leadership competencies such as Inclusion, Collaboration, Communication and Influence, Critical Thinking, Innovation, and Emotional Maturity.
Requirements
- Minimum of 16 years of age
- Work well with children
- CPR, AED and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire
- Must complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE upon hire
- Must complete Kids Zone University, Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Young Children, Principles of Youth Development, Youth Relationships: Creating Positive Interactions, and Youth Affirmations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement trainings within 90 days of hire
- Must complete Introduction to S.A.F.E, Foundations of Listen First, and Engaging with Families trainings within 6 months of hire
- Must understand their relationship to the children, parents, the Branch, and the YMCA
- Must possess character that is above reproach and worthy of emulation by the children
- Must possess effective communication and organizational skills
- May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- May be required to stand for extended periods of time while performing job functions
- Required to maintain physical endurance for extended periods of time in all types of weather conditions
- Must be alert at all times
- Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and children's well being
Nice To Haves
- Understanding of the YMCA, its goals, and how it operates as a local, national, and international movement is preferred
- Get SMART preferred
- Should show maturity and have the ability to relate to children from all social/economic segments of the community
Responsibilities
- Direct supervision of children
- Implementing planned activities
- Acquainting children with rules, activities, daily schedules and area
- Taking responsibility for the safety/welfare of each child including attendance
- Reporting all accidents to the Supervisor, and completely filling out proper health log and/or incident form
- Planning, organizing, and implementing activity plans for special interest activities
- Creating a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct
- Keeping supplies organized, maintaining and cleaning the facility and caring for equipment
- Taking responsibility for helping maintain good working conditions, inventory, and clean-up after all activities
- Role modeling SMART behavior
- Performing all other duties as assigned
