About The Position

The City of Hillsboro is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Kids Club Instructors to support its Kids Club programs at Hidden Creek Community Center and Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center. This role involves creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children ages 4 months to 8 years while their parents and caregivers participate in facility activities. The position is classified under Instructor I. Responsibilities include leading crafts, facilitating imaginative play, reading stories, and helping children build friendships, contributing to positive family experiences. Ideal candidates are patient, energetic, safety-minded, and passionate about working with children of various ages and developmental stages.

Requirements

  • A strong commitment to child safety and well-being.
  • Creativity, patience, and a playful approach to engaging children.
  • Experience working with children, particularly 4 months through age 8.
  • The ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Reliability, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
  • A positive attitude and enthusiasm for serving the community.
  • Some High School or GED.
  • Some experience in recreation, youth programs, sports, childcare, arts and crafts or a related field: or Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and care for children ages 4 months to 8 years in a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate games, crafts, activities, and play experiences.
  • Engage directly with children through active play, learning opportunities, and positive interactions.
  • Monitor children's activities and enforce safety rules and procedures.
  • Create an inclusive, fun, and supportive atmosphere for all participants.
  • Prepare and maintain the Kids Club space, including setup, cleanup, organization, and sanitization of toys and equipment.
  • Complete attendance tracking, registration records, check-in/check-out procedures, and other daily documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, participants, and members of the public.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies within the scope of training and complete required reports.
  • Support positive family experiences through excellent customer service and professional interactions.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings and follow established program policies and procedures.
