About The Position

The Kid Zone Program Specialist is responsible for the children in the Kid Zone to ensure a safe, fun area for children 2 months through 10 years old and their families to interact and enjoy. This position is primarily scheduled Monday–Friday from 8:15 AM–11:15 AM. Staff are also required to work at least one Saturday shift per month. Kid Zone hours are Monday–Thursday, 4:00 PM–7:00 PM, and Saturdays, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM, with opportunities for additional hours as needed.

Requirements

• Must be 15 years of age or older.
• Six months to one year childcare or customer service experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required.
• Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
• Ability and desire to work with children of all ages.
• Blood Borne Pathogen training
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days
• First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
• AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
• State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)

Responsibilities

• Supervises play and group activities of Kid Zone participants
• Maintains discipline and order
• Maintains supervision of participants
• Handles parent/member concerns
• Registers each Kid Zone participant
• Maintains all areas in clean, presentable fashion
• Insures equipment is clean and safe
• Enforces safety standards for the operation of the Kid Zone
• Implements Character Development: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility
• Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association
