About The Position
The Whatcom Family Y is looking for nurturing, energetic, and responsible individuals to join our Kid Zone (Drop-In Child Watch) team! This important role helps provide a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children while their parents participate in Y programs or use the facility. If you enjoy working with children and want to make a positive impact in a welcoming, mission-driven community — we’d love to meet you!
Requirements
- 16 years of age or older
- Six months or more previous experience working with children; camps, childcare, tutoring, nanny, coaching.
- Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
Nice To Haves
- Experience implementing group activities preferred
- Knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.)
- Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage children (typically ages 6 weeks to 10 years) in a safe, caring environment
- Lead age-appropriate activities including games, crafts, and playtime
- Maintain a clean, organized, and child-friendly space
- Communicate with parents and caregivers in a friendly, professional manner
- Follow YMCA safety policies and procedures
- Monitor check-in/check-out procedures for all children
