About The Position

Beckley Veterinary Hospital is dedicated to providing expert veterinary care with a compassionate, personalized approach in Beckley, West Virginia. Their experienced team offers routine wellness exams, vaccinations, advanced medical treatments, and urgent care. The Kennel Tech is responsible for the comprehensive care of patients in the hospital and boarding facility, including feeding, medicating, and cleaning. This role involves general cleaning, laundry, bathing, feeding, walking dogs, and administering medications. Additionally, the Kennel Tech will restock hospital supplies, assist with post-operative patients, and support doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams. Accurate recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior, and any issues that arise is crucial. Training for cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments may also be provided.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods
  • Proper methods of animal restraint
  • Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor (e.g., handling large dogs, bags of litter, pet foods)
  • Ability to sympathetically and patiently attend to sick, scared, and injured animals
  • Ability to learn to administer medications and to recognize abnormal conditions
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues

Responsibilities

  • Care, feed, medicate, and clean patients in the hospital and boarding facility
