About The Position

Berkeley Animal Hospital is a privately owned veterinary hospital seeking a Full-time or Part-time Kennel Assistant. This is a growing, newly built facility offering fantastic opportunities for growth in the veterinary field, with training provided for the right candidate. The ideal candidate will uphold ethics, promote a positive and thoughtful culture, be passionate about animal well-being, and maintain professionalism with patients, clients, and coworkers. Responsibilities include providing compassionate care to animals, restocking supplies, preparing workstations for procedures, administering medications, performing grooming tasks, maintaining kennel hygiene and disease control, and keeping the hospital clean and orderly. Comfort with digital platforms like Windows, Gmail, Google Drive, and Neo software is expected, with training available for Neo.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to deal with high-stress situations calmly and productively.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to grab, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50-75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Comfortable using multiple digital platforms (i.e, Windows, Gmail, and Google Drive).
  • Ability to give feedback to management and not partake in workplace gossip.
  • Pay close attention to details and follow instructions well.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care to every patient; required to physically interact with both cats and dogs.
  • Restock supplies and maintain the treatment area and exam rooms.
  • Prepare workstations for DVM and RVT for all procedures (i.e, patient preparation, procedure preparation, and sterilization of all surgical instruments).
  • Ability to follow treatment plans and administer medications.
  • Ability to perform grooming tasks, including nail trims and shaving for surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of kennel procedures and strict disease control in the hospital.
  • Sanitizing/disinfection of kennels, replacing bedding, and washing and folding laundry.
  • Handling and caring for animals to perform work in a humane and safe manner.
  • Keeping the hospital clean and orderly.
  • Maintain proper documentation and medical records as required by law.
