About The Position

This position is for a competent Psychiatric Registered Nurse who practices psychiatric-mental health nursing. The role involves performing general nursing tasks for the holistic care and treatment of patients’ medical and psychiatric needs. The professional nurse must possess specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities obtained through education and experience in caring for persons with behavioral health needs, psychiatric disorders, and co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. Expectations include participation in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementing, coordination of care, health teaching, and health promotion for a unique patient population. Psychiatric-mental health nursing care functions also include counseling (individual and group) and safety management of the therapeutic milieu in a secure forensic facility. Nurses are expected to engage in mission-driven leadership focused on patient care and quality improvement, and to follow facility policies and procedures, including time and attendance policies and mandatory overtime. Staff members are subject to recall, being held over, and irregular day/shift rotation. This position is deemed essential and designated for mandatory operations, making the staff member ineligible for Adverse Weather Leave. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Performs general nursing tasks for the holistic care and treatment of patients’ medical and psychiatric needs
  • Participate in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementing, coordination of care, health teaching and health promotion of a unique patient population
  • Provide counseling interventions including communication and interviewing techniques, problem-solving activities, crisis intervention, stress management, supportive skill building and educational groups, relaxation techniques, assertiveness training, and conflict resolution
  • Engage in mission-driven leadership focused on patient care and quality improvement
  • Follow policies and procedures of the facility
  • Adhere to time and attendance policies including mandatory overtime
  • Be subject to being recalled to duty, being held over and to irregular day/shift rotation whenever necessary to provide adequate coverage to meet facility needs
