About The Position
A competent Psychiatric Registered Nurse who practices psychiatric-mental health nursing. This role involves performing general nursing tasks for the holistic care and treatment of patients medical and psychiatric needs. The professional nurse must possess specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities obtained through education and experience in caring for persons with behavioral health needs, psychiatric disorders, and co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. Key expectations include participation in assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementing, coordination of care, health teaching, and health promotion for a unique patient population. Psychiatric-mental health nursing care functions also encompass counseling (individual and group) and safety management of the therapeutic milieu within a secure forensic facility. The nurse will provide counseling interventions such as communication and interviewing techniques, problem-solving activities, crisis intervention, stress management, supportive skill building and educational groups, relaxation techniques, assertiveness training, and conflict resolution. Nurses are expected to demonstrate mission-driven leadership focused on patient care and quality improvement, and adhere to facility policies and procedures, including time and attendance policies and mandatory overtime. This position is deemed essential and designated for mandatory operations, meaning the staff member is not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave and is subject to recall, hold over, and irregular day/shift rotation to ensure adequate coverage.
