KAYSC Dteam Instructor
About The Position
The KAYSC Dteam Instructor will co-facilitate STEM service-learning projects, lead discussions on cultural identity, and supervise youth during field trips and events. This role involves supporting youth outreach, understanding the KAYSC mission and youth development best practices, and assisting with program planning, curriculum, and activities. The instructor will also create lesson plans focused on STEM justice, attend relevant trainings, and recruit/retain middle school youth, with a focus on underrepresented groups. Building relationships with school staff and with youth and their families, ensuring clear communication, is also a key aspect of this position. Other related duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Understanding of the KAYSC mission, target population, and youth development best practices.
- Ability to create and design lesson plans focused on STEM justice.
- Willingness to attend STEM education, youth development, and service learning trainings.
- Skills in recruiting and retaining middle school youth.
- Ability to build relationships with school staff.
- Capacity to develop authentic relationships with youth and their parent/guardian.
- Clear and consistent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Co-facilitate STEM service-learning projects relevant to youth lives and communities.
- Co-facilitate group discussions related to cultural identity.
- Supervise youth on field trips and other events.
- Support youth with outreach opportunities to strengthen their learning by teaching others.
- Learn and demonstrate an understanding of the KAYSC mission, target population, and youth development best practices.
- Support planning and preparation of middle school programming projects, curriculum, and activities.
- Create and design lesson plans focused on STEM justice.
- Attend STEM education, youth development, and service learning trainings.
- Recruit and retain middle school youth for STEM service learning opportunities.
- Build relationships with appropriate school staff as the first point of contact for KAYSC programming.
- Develop authentic relationships with youth and their parent/guardian, including clear and consistent communication.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
