K9 Adoption Specialist
About The Position
Determined to end Veteran suicide, K9s For Warriors is the leading nonprofit organization providing Service Dogs to military Veterans nationwide suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and/or military sexual trauma — at no financial cost to the Veteran. Founded in 2011 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, K9s For Warriors is committed to saving lives at both ends of the leash by primarily rescuing dogs and pairing them with Veterans in need. In order to continue the great work we’re doing, we’re looking to add a K9 Adoption Specialist to our amazing team! The K9 Adoption Specialist is responsible for the facilitation, coordination, and execution of the adoption process for career-changed dogs. The K9 Adoption Specialist is also responsible for the maintenance of all associated records, processes, and documentation that pertain to the adoption process.
Requirements
- H.S. diploma or equivalent
- Ability to understand dog body language is required
- Previous work in related animal field is required
- Valid driver’s license and ability be covered by facility driving insurance required
- Good communication skills in one on one, over phone, by email, and in group settings
- Must have basic computer literacy skills and be able to handle multiple unrelated tasks simultaneously while working in a busy environment
Responsibilities
- Assist P&P Coordinator and Lead P&P Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and facilitating on-campus and off-campus adoption events.
- Work with the K9 P&P Coordinator to promote adoptable canines across social media platforms.
- Provide information on adoptable canines to K9s staff and the public through email and social media platforms.
- Ensure all appropriate documentation is maintained on adoptable canines including but not limited to: behavior and household needs and medical records in Salesforce and Smartsheet.
- Coordinate with the Adoptions Trainers to ensure all training aspects of Career Changed dogs are in line with the adoption process.
- Work with Adoptions Trainers on training plans and helping work dogs to maintain skills including leash walking and established behaviors set by the Adoptions Trainers.
- Handling of dogs during meet and greets.
- Responsible for assisting in creating partner relationships, dog assessment and readiness, transportation of dogs, dog handling, and emergency preparedness.
- Comfortable representing K9s and the adoptable dogs through media and public speaking.
- Communicate regularly with the K9 Procurement & Placement Assistant Managers to ensure coordination of all relevant tasks.
- Assist Foster Coordinator with foster process as needed.
- Support all other department activities which will contribute to the advancement and success of the team and the mission as identified by the supervisor.
- Assist in other departments and campuses as needed or when no canines are available for adoption.
- Participate in Strategic planning process and cross-departmental projects as assigned.
- Work independently with little or no supervision and in a professional manner at all times.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management
