About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced K8 Substitute Coordinator & Substitute Teacher to join our team. The K8 Substitute Coordinator & Substitute Teacher will oversee all aspects of interviewing, training and coordinating substitute teachers. Each day there also is the expectation to be in the classroom as a substitute, when and wherever needed.

  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with outside vendors and businesses
  • Strong supervisory skills and leadership skills
  • Experience with educational management systems and/or substitute management systems
  • Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
  • Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story)
  • Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
  • Work in noisy and crowded school environment
  • Frequent walking throughout the campus
  • Must be able to travel in state between campuses, to vendors, and to related events
  • VCS conducts pre-employment screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university and 3 years of teaching/substitute experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Be a full-time substitute teacher when and wherever needed on the K-8 campus
  • Display the ability to connect Biblical truth to students’ lives
  • Demonstrate a passion for ministering to students through teaching, counseling, encouragement, and mentoring
  • Adheres to and honors Valley Christian Schools’ standards, policies, procedures as outlined in the Substitute Guide
  • Responsible to cover a variety of classes/grades as needed
  • Responsible for implementing lesson plans as directed by the assigned classroom teacher
  • Maintain records by documenting attendance, incidents, and behavior in accordance with guidelines and policies
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in decision-making
  • Follow Substitute Teachers Dept. Policies & Procedures and meticulously record attendance, incidents, and behavior according to school policies
  • Promote student engagement to inspire and encourage progress while supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities of each student
  • Maintain a healthy learning environment for the students in the classroom by using appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules
  • Attend professional development workshops provided by Valley Christian Schools
  • Exercise open and respectful communication with students, families, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Follow all crisis management procedures in the event of an emergency or drill
  • Participate in required staff meetings, events, and activities
  • Assists in interviews and participates in the hiring of substitute teachers
  • Manage subs after they have been interviewed and onboarded
  • Train, supervise, counsel, schedule and evaluate performance of assigned staff
  • Establishes best practices to attract and retain mission-appropriate substitute teachers
  • Supervise the substitute management system
  • Maintain and manage Instasub and other applications related to the role
  • Oversee as the sub caller to fill the need daily and weekly
  • Conducts interviews and participates in the hiring of staff
  • Oversee student teachers after they have been interviewed by a principal.
  • Manage college students who need practicum and observation hours.
  • If they will be teaching in the classroom the principal will first need to interview them.
  • Train, supervise, counsel, schedule and evaluate performance of assigned staff
  • Oversees the overall work of assigned staff
  • Performs other related duties assigned by the Principle & Vice Principals

Benefits

  • Salary Description $46,000- $51,000 DOE
