This role is responsible for promoting the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of assigned students. The teacher will utilize available instructional materials and a variety of techniques to foster student achievement and development, demonstrating knowledge of appropriate developmental practices for young children. Key duties include maintaining accurate records, managing the classroom environment, and developing and implementing effective classroom management techniques. The position requires timely completion of reports, assignments, and records, as well as planning and preparing for classes with weekly lesson plans. The teacher must report regularly and punctually to assigned work locations, notify the principal of absences, and provide substitutes with adequate plans and materials. Maintaining assigned books and equipment, becoming knowledgeable about system methods and resources, and using various diagnostic and placement methods are also essential. The role demands self-control, decorum, and the ability to provide for individual differences, continually evaluating student progress and planning with student needs in mind. Cooperation with school-based and central office personnel, encouraging parent involvement, and demonstrating professional growth through inservice training and faculty participation are expected. The teacher must conform to Louisiana laws regarding student education, health, safety, and welfare, and assist in the development and implementation of quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools. Planning for and participating in the evaluation process, along with performing other duties assigned by the principal, are also part of the responsibilities.
