This position is for a K-8 Teacher, specifically a 6-8 science teacher. The role involves promoting the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of assigned students. The teacher will utilize available instructional materials and a variety of techniques to foster student achievement and development, while demonstrating knowledge of appropriate developmental practices for young children. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, ensuring a safe and attractive classroom, implementing effective classroom management, and completing assignments in a timely manner. The teacher will also be responsible for planning and preparing classes, submitting weekly lesson plans, and reporting punctually to assigned duties. Communication with the principal regarding absences and providing substitutes with adequate plans are also key aspects of the role. Maintaining assigned books and equipment, becoming knowledgeable about system methods and resources, and using various diagnostic and placement methods are expected. The teacher should exhibit self-control, provide for individual differences, continually evaluate student progress, and cooperate with school personnel. Encouraging parent involvement in student progress and demonstrating professional growth through inservice training and faculty participation are important. The role requires conforming to Louisiana laws concerning student education, health, safety, and welfare, and assisting in the development and implementation of quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools. Active participation in the evaluation process and performing other assigned duties are also part of the role.
