About The Position

This position is for one year 1.0 FTE. The literacy and social studies coach has a crucial role in advancing literacy skills and promoting effective instructional practices within the district. The primary focus will be on enhancing core literacy instruction through coaching staff around principles of structured literacy and implementation of the new district literacy curriculum. The literacy and social studies coach will support pre-k programming along with three elementary schools; and will collaborate with other district coaches, including math coaches, digital resource teachers, social/emotional intervention support personnel and special education leads to ensure a comprehensive and aligned approach that supports classroom teachers, building administrators, and leadership teams.

Requirements

Current Minnesota kindergarten or elementary teaching license
Trained in structured literacy to meet Minnesota Read Act Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience
Demonstrated success in coaching and or mentoring teachers
Strong understanding of literacy assessment tools and data analysis
Knowledge of current trends and research in literacy instruction
Knowledge of MN Early Learning Standards are called, ECIPS - Early Childhood Indicators of Progress and includes ages Birth to Five and English-Language Arts Standards
Knowledge, experience, and understanding of the district's learning and technology framework and use of Seesaw / Schoology within a 1:1 environment
Commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching
Strong interpersonal, organization, and communication skills
Ability to work well with adult learners
Ability to work well as part of a collaborative team
Ability to resolve conflicts with groups and individuals

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in education, literacy, or a related field
Training or certification in structured literacy

Responsibilities

Design, facilitate, and deliver professional development sessions for teachers focused on structured literacy instruction, differentiated instruction, and Tier 1 literacy interventions.
Support and guide teams and individual teachers in the implementation of district literacy curriculum and structured literacy principles and strategies.
Lead annual district training sessions for new teachers and teachers who are new to grade level.
Provide ongoing, on-site coaching and mentoring to teachers, supporting the implementation of structured literacy practices in the classroom.
Conduct classroom observations, provide constructive feedback, and assist teachers in refining instructional techniques to meet the diverse needs of students.
Provide opportunities for teachers to observe the modeling of various aspects of instruction.
Co-teach in literacy as part of coaching when needed.
Problem-solve with teachers in making responsive instructional decisions regarding interventions and extensions to meet student needs.
Analyze literacy assessment data to identify trends, areas of improvement, and opportunities for intervention.
Work closely with teachers to interpret assessment results and develop targeted instructional plans for individuals and small groups.
Collaborate with other district coaches (i.e. math, special education leads, digital resource teachers, ELD) to integrate literacy strategies across disciplines and promote a unified approach to instruction.
Participate in regular team meetings to share best practices, align coaching strategies, and address cross-curricular challenges.
Work with the Literacy Specialist and other partners to ensure alignment between structured literacy initiatives and the overall district curriculum.
Ability to work beyond the school year and student day as needed (compensation provided).
