About The Position

The teacher will plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. This role involves managing instructional time, student behavior, presenting lessons, monitoring student performance, providing feedback, facilitating instruction, interacting within the educational environment, and performing non-instructional duties.

Requirements

  • Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs.
  • Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Physical requirements consistent with Light Work due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using a prescribed format.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal and counseling terminology.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of descriptive statistics, statistical inference and statistical theory.
  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
  • Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  • Ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools.
  • Minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.

Responsibilities

  • Manage instructional time by having materials ready, starting lessons quickly, and maintaining a high level of student time-on-task.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing clear rules and procedures, monitoring behavior, and addressing inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently.
  • Present instruction by reviewing previous material, introducing new concepts, speaking fluently, using understandable language, providing examples, assigning successful tasks, asking appropriate questions, maintaining a brisk pace, making smooth transitions, clarifying assignments, and summarizing lessons.
  • Monitor student performance by maintaining clear work standards, circulating during class work, and using various assessments to check progress.
  • Provide feedback on student work to encourage growth, offering prompt feedback on assigned work and affirming correct responses or providing sustaining feedback for incorrect responses.
  • Facilitate instruction by having an instructional plan compatible with school goals, using diagnostic information, maintaining accurate records, aligning objectives with strategies and assessments, and utilizing available resources.
  • Interact effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community.
  • Perform non-instructional duties as assigned, adhere to laws and policies, and demonstrate growth through professional development.
