About The Position

Escuela Avancemos is seeking a 4th-Grade Teacher for the 2026-2027 School Year. Escuela Avancemos! is a K–8 Academy located in the heart of Southwest Detroit, proudly serving a diverse community with a high population of English as a Second Language (ESL) learners. We are seeking passionate, culturally responsive educators who are committed to helping all students achieve at the highest levels through rigorous instruction, restorative practices, and intentional language development support. We believe in educating the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and linguistically. Our educators meet students where they are and guide them toward academic success while honoring their cultural identities, lived experiences, and multilingual strengths. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Valid Michigan teaching certification for the appropriate grade level or enrolled in a valid state-approved alternate teacher certification program.
• Commitment to culturally responsive and student-centered instruction.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

• ESL/ELL Endorsement, preferred.
• Will consider non-certified applicants with a degree in the subject area to be taught; would be required to complete a plan of action to become "highly qualified" within a prescribed period of time.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that supports both academic achievement and English language development.
• Implement culturally responsive teaching practices and ESL strategies to support diverse learners.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students at varying levels of language proficiency.
• Analyze student performance and language data to inform instruction and interventions.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and restorative classroom environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues, ESL staff, and support teams to ensure student success.
• Build strong partnerships with families and caregivers.
• Maintain accurate records, assessments, and required documentation.
