About The Position

New Canaan Country School is seeking a part-time K-5 Structured Literacy Teacher, an independent contractor, to deliver a comprehensive, structured literacy program to students with identified learning difficulties. This role involves 14 hours per week of small group instruction for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The teacher will utilize the Orton-Gillingham approach, focusing on explicit, multisensory, systematic, cumulative, prescriptive, and diagnostic instruction. Key aspects of the role include lesson planning, program implementation, progress monitoring, assessment, maintaining student growth records, and communicating progress to the student's team and parents/guardians.

Requirements

• Teaching Credential (Education Specialist, Special Education, Reading Instruction or related certification)
• Training/Certification in multisensory literacy intervention (Orton-Gillingham Associate Level, Wilson Reading System, IMSE)
• Master’s degree in special education, teaching, or literacy
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills
• Possesses excellent verbal and written communication abilities
• Works both independently and collaboratively
• Accepts constructive feedback and implements changes
• Commits to professional growth and meets established goals
• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
• Demonstrates a proactive approach to communication and instruction
