About The Position

Lake Superior Academy is hiring a K/1 Grade Teacher. Must have a Teacher Certification. Lake Superior Academy located in Sault Ste Marie is a tuition free public school academy serving children in grades K-5th. Our vision is to help each student develop a happy heart, an eagerness to learn and a strong foundation for success. We employ instructional methods that foster creativity, exploration, and strong problem-solving skills while also ensuring accountability for student progress. The K/1 Grade Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and the social, emotional, and personal growth of students. This position delivers standards-aligned instruction that builds foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies while encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. The 3rd Grade Teacher collaborates with students, families, and colleagues to promote student achievement and support the mission and values of the school.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with the appropriate elementary grade-level endorsement.
  • Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum, child development, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Ability to develop engaging lessons that promote academic achievement and the social-emotional development of young learners.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning, instruction, and assessment.
  • Proficiency in integrating instructional technology into the classroom.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and school leadership to support student success.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that meet the academic, social, and developmental needs of third-grade students.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that promotes student engagement, responsibility, and respect.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and individual student needs.
  • Assess student learning through a variety of methods, including assignments, projects, quizzes, tests, observations, and classroom participation.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate academic records, and use assessment data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Foster the development of foundational literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies skills through engaging and effective instructional practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective classroom management practices that encourage positive student behavior and a safe learning environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, analyze student data, and support school improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, academic performance, and behavioral concerns.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504, and other student support meetings as required.
  • Integrate instructional technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance student learning.
  • Participate in school activities, meetings, professional development, and other assigned duties.
  • Maintain a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
