About The Position

The K-12 Counselor Specialist will provide comprehensive guidance and counseling services to students within the K-12 system. This role involves supporting students' academic, social-emotional, and career development. The specialist will work collaboratively with students, parents, educators, and administrators to foster a positive and supportive learning environment. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year within the Guidance and Counseling Department.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Guidance and Counseling, or a related field.
  • Valid state-issued K-12 School Counselor license or certification.
  • Completion of a three (3) year work history in the "Experience and Credentials" section of the application, including periods of unemployment, schooling, and volunteer work.
  • Knowledge of child development, learning theories, and counseling techniques.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, families, and staff.
  • Proficiency in relevant technology and record-keeping systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as a K-12 counselor.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and management.
  • Familiarity with state and district counseling standards and initiatives.
  • Bilingual skills (specify language if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students on academic, social-emotional, and career-related issues.
  • Develop and implement guidance programs and activities to support student development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student needs and concerns.
  • Assist students in academic planning, course selection, and post-secondary education or career exploration.
  • Facilitate crisis intervention and provide support during challenging situations.
  • Maintain confidential student records and documentation.
  • Stay current with best practices in school counseling and relevant educational policies.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities.
